Your baby has reached his birth weight, give or take a few grams. A bit cramped in your belly, he’s moving less and less. His intestines have started to work and produce the first stools called meconium, a residue of dead cells and intestinal and hepatic secretions produced by the end of pregnancy.
Baby breathes, sucks his thumb and also swallows. His neurological development, now very advanced, allows him to be aware and react to his environment with the help of all his senses. This is also the month of big preparations! Every organ is ready, but continues to mature even more in the womb. The longer they stay there, the better they will work. Baby’s coordination is also improving. His skin is now nicely stretched, so he doesn’t have the wrinkled look anymore. Ready to be born, his arms and legs are still folded under him, head down. He is already pushing to make his way down. He loses some of his vernix and lunago. At birth, it will almost all be gone. As he’s growing, his space is getting smaller, and so is the amount of amniotic fluid.
At the end of this month
Baby measures about 50 cm
Baby weighs about 3.3 kg (7.3 lb)
