Ringing in the ears

Hi there!!
Recently my son (12 years old) started complaining about ringing in the ears. He is not able to do anything when it starts ringing. I'm worried about the situation. Is this the symptoms of hearing loss?
He uses headphones in a loud voice while playing games. I think this might be the cause of ringing in ears. If so, will it be alright once he stops using headphones in loud voice? While researching I have seen all this can be corrected using a hearing aid. I don't know if he will wear them. Anyways, I have scheduled an appointment with a hearing aid practitioner in Toronto on 30th of this month.
Has anyone here with a similar situation? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!!
